The Galaxy A55 could be entitled to a graphics processor from AMD

The Galaxy A55 could be a new kind of smartphone from Samsung. Thanks to the partnership established by the Korean brand, the SoC of the phone would include a GPU part from AMD.

According to a recent benchmark published on Geekbench, the Galaxy A55 would be the first smartphone in the Galaxy A5X range to benefit from an Xclipse graphics part within its Exynos processor.

A new series of Xclipse for the mid-range

Don’t imagine a miniaturized Radeon RX 7900 XTX graphics card in Samsung’s next smartphone, especially since this is not the brand’s most premium range. However, the fact is that AMD and Samsung have a partnership that has already led to the production of mobile processors equipped with an Xclipse graphics part, such as the Xclipse 920 GPU in the Exynos 2200 or, more recently, the Xclipse 940 in the Exynos 2400.

If it is not particularly inconsistent to see such a GPU in a high-end smartphone, it is its very probable integration in a more humble phone that concerns us here. According to a benchmark recently published on the Geekbench site and a number of leaks, it is very likely that the future Galaxy A55 (which, by the way, should be delivered with Android 14) will feature the Exynos 1480 SoC, which has not yet been made official. This would therefore include an Xclipse 530 GPU part from AMD; a first in the mid-range.

The name of the GPU speaks for itself: you should not expect a result as impressive as in the Galaxy S, the Xclipse 9 being apparently reserved for them. The Xclipse 5 range will undoubtedly be dedicated to Galaxy A5X range smartphones.

Ray Tracing on the Galaxy A55 thanks to RDNA 2?

It is difficult to know the technical specifications of Samsung’s next mid-range smartphone, but some guesses can be made. In this sense, it is very likely that the Xclipse 530 GPU works with an RDNA 2 architecture. If version 3 is already used by the Exynos 2400, version 2 was still the one chosen by Samsung in the Exynos 2200 model… which supported Ray Tracing.

Once again, you should not expect the result of a gaming PC or a PlayStation 5. But the Exynos 1480 processor could, thanks to its Xclipse 530 GPU, also be compatible with this advanced lighting technology. . If unfortunately it ends up not being Ray Tracing compatible, let’s stay positive and remember that the integration of such a processor in a mid-range smartphone remains a great step forward.

Apart from that, the Samsung Exynos 1480 would feature eight cores: four of them will be clocked at 2.75 GHz, the other four at 2.05 GHz.
