Starting next month, several high-end Samsung smartphones will receive fewer security updates. These are the Galaxy S20, Galaxy Z Fold 2, Galaxy Flip and Galaxy Note 20. Until next year, the latter will only receive one update every three months.
One foot in the grave, or almost. The April security update is gradually arriving on Samsung smartphones and on this occasion, the Korean firm has slipped in a little information that should interest you if you own an aging model. In fact, several devices will see their update rate decrease in the coming weeks. From one patch per month, they will move to one patch every three months.
Several high-end smartphones released in recent years will therefore be less well protected. Here is the list of affected devices:

All the smartphones mentioned will therefore receive their next security update at least next July. Of course, emergency updates patching a critical vulnerability will be deployed instantly, without waiting for the initial delay. Note also that the Galaxy Note 20 is normally supposed to receive another 6 months of monthly updates. It is currently difficult to know whether this is an error on Samsung’s part or not.

Regardless, all these smartphones are getting a little closer to the fateful date. After the 4 years of updates promised by Samsung, the latter will no longer be eligible for security patches from April 2025. As usual, the end of support by Samsung will mark the beginning of the vulnerability of devices against cyberattacks. From this date, although entirely possible, it will therefore be particularly dangerous to use these smartphones. Let us also point out that these will remain blocked on Android 13.
