Hackers from the Anonymous Sudan group launched a massive cyberattack against France on Monday. At the end of the evening, the hackers were amused to see the damage caused and the media coverage generated.

Hackers have financial and/or political motivations when they carry out computer attacks against institutions such as ministries, as was the case on Monday March 11, 2024 in France. But behind the pirates, we find human beings, made of flesh and blood who like to show that their egos have been satisfied. The pro-Russian hackers from the Anonymous Sudan group, responsible for the attack, prove it by provoking the authorities a little more.

The first emails mentioning an incident on the State interministerial network were received within the ministries on Monday morning. Several of them, as well as the services of Prime Minister Gabriel Attal, would have been affected. The hackers allegedly worked by launching a DDoS (denial of service) attack. This type of cyberattack consists of sending a very large number of requests in waves to a target, a website for example, to slow it down and prevent it from working. The La Poste group is one of the recent victims of this type of attack.

In other words, these hackers, who have become accustomed to communicating in English and Arabic, have no proven links with Sudan. This does not mean, however, that they are financed by the Kremlin directly. There is no evidence to confirm this at this stage. However, in August 2023, the collective threatened France with reprisals if it intervened during the putsch in Niger, during which “Long live Russia” were chanted.

In recent days, the Anonymous Sudan group struck Israel’s number one telecom operator, Partner (formerly owned by Orange), on March 7, the day after a devastating DDoS attack which brought down Egyptian communications infrastructure.
