The identification of Le Grêlé after her suicide could well revive the Karine Leroy affair, killed in Meaux in June 1994. Can this cold-case be resolved?
On September 29, 2021, after 35 years of mystery, the famous serial killer nicknamed Le Grêlé was identified in Grau-du-Roi. This is François Vérove, a former gendarme who became a police officer who, a few days after identification, committed suicide. The discovery of his identity could well revive the Karine Leroy affair. In 1994, this 20-year-old young woman disappeared after graduating from high school. A month later, she was found dead near the forest. If today, it is impossible to analyze the traces of its DNA, some clues suggest that it could well be Hail.
François Vérove, alias le Grêlé, lived for seven years in Seine-et-Marne with his family, in Longperrier. It was around this time that he began to attack several women in the area. Twenty days before he attacked Ingrid, aged 11, disappeared on the way to high school Karine Leroy, who lived in Meaux, half an hour’s drive from Longperrier.

However, The Parisian asserts that no trace of sexual violence was not found on Karine Leroy. Why was a link made between Hail and the murder of this teenager? Due to a detail identified in other assaults attributed to him. Karine Leroy was found strangled by an electric cable forming a noose in which a piece of wood was located. A method that recalls that of François Vérove and could be the key to this unresolved case.
