The Kia EV6 finally becomes eligible for the 6,000 euro bonus but it hides a bad surprise

Kia is officially launching a new version of its EV6, equipped with a smaller 58 kWh battery. It is available to order from 47,990 €, but a little “trick” allows you to have the ecological bonus of 6,000 euros.

Since its launch last October, the Kia EV6 has met with some success. Indeed, in addition to being crowned car of the year 2022, the electric crossover has got off to a very good start, with more than 1,900 units sold since the start of the year.

A good start therefore for the technical cousin of the Hyundai Ioniq 5, which continues to develop its range. While waiting for the Kia EV6 GT sports version, with 577 horsepower and scheduled for launch a little later in the year, the star of the range is available in a brand new, more accessible version.

A smaller battery

Indeed, for the time being, only one battery was offered in the range. This has a capacity of 77.4 kWh and is associated with 229 and 325 horsepower engines.. But now a new alternative is now appearing, as Kia details in its press release. The EV6 is indeed now available in France with a smaller 58 kWh battery, only accessible with the Air Active 2 finish, equipped with two-wheel drive. Note that this is already offered in other countries.

This battery is then associated with a 170 horsepower electric motor while the car still benefits from the 800-volt architecture allowing ultra-fast charging, like the Hyundai Ioniq 5among others.

This new version, less efficient but more accessible can then travel up to 394 km according to the WLTP cycle, while it can go from 10 to 80% autonomy in just 18 minutes on a fast terminal. To note that this version inaugurates the battery pre-conditioning system, now standard on the entire range. This system makes it possible to heat the battery, in cold weather, before charging in order to shorten the time of the latter.

From €47,990… but eligible for the bonus!

This new finish is therefore now available to order, at a price displayed from 47,990 euros. Note thatit is eligible for the €6,000 environmental bonus at participating Kia dealerships. Indeed, this maximum aid is normally reserved for models under 47,000 euros. In other words, Kia is counting on dealers to give a discount of at least 991 euros in order to bring the price down below 47,000 euros.

This version is located just above the standard Air Active, and includes many standard features. Among them are the 12.3-inch digital handset combined with a touch screen of the same size with integrated GPS navigation.

Numerous driving aids are also part of the standard equipment, such as the help to keep in line, the active driving assistance in traffic jams, the autonomous emergency braking system with detection of pedestrians and cyclists or active assistance for driving on the motorway. As a reminder, the Kia EV6 obtained five stars in the EuroNCAP crash test.

A small price drop that hides an increase elsewhere

The other little trick on the part of Kia is to take advantage of this new entry-level version to increase the price of other finishes! Thus, the former first prize, with its 77.4 kWh battery, goes from 48,690 euros to 51,990 euros. Note that the launch price was 47,990 euros. In short, the good news of this new version hides the bad news of the price increase in a tense context on the automobile market. But at 41,000 euros bonus deducted, the new Kia EV6 of 58 kWh is interesting because of a good value for money with a correct autonomy caught up by its ultra-fast charge.

Kia EV6 test: the design and enduring electric wagon

With an EV6 with a very marked design, Kia is launching an ambitious and surprising top-of-the-range model, with remarkable autonomy. The Korean brand has been offering electric models since 2004, but this is the first time…
