The Chinese brand NIU brings its new series of electric scooters to the European continent: the MQi GT EVO, improved versions of the MQi GT, are advertised as faster, more powerful and more comfortable. These new electric scooters promise ideal qualities for electric urban mobility, for a price that is a little less.

The MQi GT EVO scooter still plays heavyweight in terms of performance by directly attacking the 125cc gasoline engines on the market.

A serious competitor

The MQi GT EVO is the most powerful scooter developed by the Chinese brand NIU and is entering the European market, one of the most important for the company after China. It is suitable for city traffic with a length of 1.9 meters and 81 cm in height, all in a design that is obviously very similar to that of its big brothers the MQi GT and MQi+ Sport.

The scooter stands out above all for its technical capabilities and its components: it is equipped with a 72 V and 5000 W motor powered by a fourth generation NIU Energy Lithium battery of two times 26 Ah. The MQi GT EVO thus promises to climb up to 100 km / h depending on the driving mode adopted, against 70 km / h for the basic GT version, for a range of up to 75 km.

Three driving modes can therefore be selected: Eco, to drive economically up to 45 km/h; Dynamic, for daily journeys up to 75 km/h and Sport, which bets on acceleration and a top speed, as we have seen, of 100 km/h. A speed difficult to achieve if the 275 kg of payload are filled (goods or driver plus passenger).

City comfort

The NIU electric scooter can be recharged in 5 hours depending on the brand and has a design that combines comfort and performance. The 14-inch wheels, added to a ground clearance of 180 mm, offer significant navigation comfort on city roads. The front and rear hydraulic brakes come, according to NIU, to improve the quality of the ride, especially since they are supported by a braking energy recovery system.

The seat is 30% longer than that of the MQi GT model in order to more easily transport a second person. Finally, the LCD dashboard of the NIU scooter is fully customizable and can display information such as battery status, driving mode, speed, or even energy consumption. It is also possible to geolocate and control the machine using NIU’s in-house application.

The MQi GT EVO is now marketed in Europe in five colors for a starting price of 4,999 euros, not counting the various possible purchase aids.

NIU MQi GT test: an efficient and affordable electric scooter

Although it is not necessarily very well known to the general public, NIU is a manufacturer with solid experience in the field of electric scooters. And with the NIU MQi GT, it offers a successful model with an attractive price positioning in view of the services it offers.
