One more line in the (too) long history of the Zouaves. Marc de Cacqueray-Valmenier, presented as the leader of the dissolved ultra-right group the Zouaves Paris, was sentenced to one year in prison for the attack on Saint-Sauveur, a Parisian bar emblematic of the anti-fascist movement, Friday the next day his incarceration for failing to comply with his judicial review.
The Paris court placed Marc de Cacqueray-Valmenier, the only defendant present during the deliberation, under an electronic bracelet. The prosecutor had requested 10 months’ imprisonment against him for “degradations”, “violence” and refusal to communicate the unlock code for his telephone while in police custody. The court also sentenced Bastien D. to six months in prison, but released the three other defendants for the acts of violence and degradation.
Marc de Cacqueray-Valmenier had been presented by the prosecution during the hearing in November as the “chief” of this expedition carried out, with baseball bats and tear gas, against the Saint-Sauveur bar, in the Ménilmontant district of Paris. On June 4, 2020, a “pack of men all dressed in dark and concealed faces”, “singing military songs and assembly cries”burst in front of the Saint-Sauveur bar. “They turned everything around, hit randomly and left just as quickly”, told another customer to the investigators. They found debris from glass bottles, impacts on the window. A few hours later, the attack was claimed on the Telegram channel “Ouest Canal” by the ultra-right group Zouaves Paris.
Already arrested Thursday morning
The 23-year-old activist was also arrested Thursday in Saint-Cloud (Hauts-de-Seine) and then imprisoned after being seen last Saturday in Paris at a demonstration against the vaccine pass when he was banned from participating in a rally. . During this rally, AFP journalists were attacked.
This ban followed his indictment after the violence committed against SOS Racisme activists during a meeting of far-right presidential candidate Eric Zemmour in Villepinte in December. They had led to the dissolution, on January 5 in the Council of Ministers, of the Zouaves Paris, a small group of ultra-right followers of violent flash actions like “hooligans”.
