The Lollapalooza Paris festival cancels its 2024 edition, which was to be held at the same time as the Olympic Games

The Lollapalooza Paris festival announced, Thursday March 7, the cancellation of its 2024 edition, which is traditionally held in July, highlighting “logistical, administrative and security constraints which are increasingly strong”while the Olympic Games are looming (July 26-August 11).

On X, this music festival does not explicitly mention the Games but emphasizes that it would be to him ” impossible “ to be organized “in the best reception conditions for our fans, our artists and our partners”. It therefore meets the public in July 2025, for its next edition.

The cultural events of summer 2024 have been facing uncertainties for a year and a half, due to the strong mobilization of law enforcement for the Paris Games.

From October 2022, the Minister of the Interior, Gérald Darmanin, had in fact caused incomprehension in the sector by evoking the need for “cancelled or postponed” cultural events in summer 2024.

Since the end of 2022, a framework has been defined and major festivals, such as Vieilles Charrues or Rock en Seine, have been protected. Except Lollapalooza Paris, which was to take place at the same time as the opening ceremony.

Other live performance events, such as the Avignon Festival, have brought forward their dates by a week compared to their usual.
