The Lord of the Rings: a powerful title for the Amazon event series

In a short teaser, the adapted series of “Lord of the Rings” has confirmed its air date, and revealed its official title!

New Line Cinema

don’t call her anymore “the Lord of the Rings series” but… The Rings of Power! As its name suggests, the television adaptation of JRR Tolkien’s novels will take place several millennia before the adventures of Frodo Baggins and his companions, during the era when the Rings were forged by the wizard Sauron.

In a short one-minute teaser (see below), the origin of the Rings of Power is told to us by a woman (Galadriel?). A reference to the introduction to The Fellowship of the Ring, the first part of the film trilogy, which retraced the fate and fall of Sauron, defeated by the sword of Isildur, the heir to the throne of the kingdom of Gondor.

Surprising fact: the teaser was not produced using digital effects, but rather live action under the leadership of metallurgist Landon Ryan and the supervision of legendary special effects manager Douglas Trumbull (2001: The Odyssey of space, Blade Runner…).

This series co-created by JD Payne and Patrick McKay, whose pilot was directed by JA Bayona, brings together a cast of international performers more or less known to the public: Englishman Robert Aramayo (young Ed Stark in Game of Thrones) , the Puerto Rican Ismael Cruz Córdova (Ray Donovan), the American Cynthia Addai-Robinson (Arrow), the Scottish Peter Mullan or the Swedish actress Morfydd Clark in the role of the elf Galadriel (succeeding Cate Blanchett) .

The most expensive series ever produced (a billion dollars was invested in the filming of its first two seasons), The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power will be broadcast exclusively on Amazon Prime Video from September 2, 2022.
