  • In “The Mandalorian” Season 3, Mando goes from lone wolf to leader of the Mandalorians.
  • How Mando intends to unite the clans is unclear. But he wants to find a reason and that could define Season 4.
  • With Grogu in tow, Mandalore as a home for foundlings would surely bring some common ground to some clans.

On March 1, 2023, “The Mandalorian” season 3 will start streaming on Disney +. Mando has a new role in the new episodes of the “Star Wars” series. The lone wolf who roamed the galaxy far, far away as a bounty hunter becomes the leader of the Mandalorians.

In the third season of The Mandalorian, Mando is tasked with washing away his sins in the waters beneath Mandalorian’s mines. These are: taking off one’s helmet in front of other people. But he also has a duty with the darksaber to rebuild Mandalore and unite the scattered Mandalorians.

In the trailer for The Mandalorian Season 3, we already see Mando rallying a crowd of other Mandalorians. He talks about giving the Mandalorians a common ground, to be on the same side, to fight for the same cause.

Logically, what that reason will be is not yet revealed, but it could be something that will play out notably in The Mandalorian season 4. Because before Mando can unite the other Mandos, he must cleanse his sins, settle his conflict with Bo-Katan, who also wants the Darksaber, and learn to take responsibility.

Before we start asking why all Mandalorians should fight together, we need to address why Din Djarin is doing all of this in the first place. Of course, being the daddy that he is, he does this to give Grogu, formerly known as Baby Yoda, a brighter future.

Since the first season, Mando has regularly passed on his earnings so that other foundlings can benefit and have a better life. With Grogu he has his own foundling to fight for.

The Mandalorian: The foundlings are the common denominator

Mandalorian culture is founded on foundlings, at least among Mando’s clan, the Children of the Watch. Mandalorians are not born as Mandalorians, they are made into them by being taken in and raised according to certain values.

Most of the Mandalorians Din Djarin knows were once foundlings, so it’s logical that the common denominator that everyone would fight for is a future for the foundlings. But the Death Watch doesn’t think much of the culture with the foundlings, for example.

So Mando’s mission for “The Mandalorian” season 4 might not only be to unite the Mandalorians and rebuild Mandalore, but to make Mandalore a place where foundlings can be raised carefree.

Whether the future of the foundlings will ultimately be Mando’s motivation for his actions and the merger of the Mandalorians will be revealed in the Disney+ New Releases program from March 1, 2023. More Star Wars releases to come this year!
