This feature film was clearly produced with the aim of telling the story of the Monkey King (also called Sun Wukong), one of the protagonists of the famous Chinese tale, Journey to the West.
The character of the Monkey King is known to have inspired many characters over the years, and in particular a certain San Goku, the hero of the Dragon Ball manga but also the hero of One Piece, Monkey D. Luffy.
Breaking with the traditional codes of animated film, the fantastic creature takes the place of the protagonist here, while the secondary role is reserved for the human. This feature therefore guarantees that your children will not have the impression of watching a film “like the others”.
The hero’s quest for identity is a universal enough theme to ensure that younger viewers will identify with the Monkey King. And should we point out that beyond the action and adventure, humor is omnipresent throughout the story (apart from a few more dramatic story elements).
