  • Quentin Tarantino is scheduled to shoot his final film “The Movie Critic” this year.
  • Brad Pitt will star in the lead role. Other stars have not yet been confirmed.
  • Hollywood superstar Tom Cruise is reportedly set to join the cast in a supporting role.

Quentin Tarantino, the cult director of films like “Pulp Fiction” and “Django Unchained”, wants to end his career as a director with his tenth film “The Movie Critic”. The title is confirmed, Brad Pitt is confirmed and Tarantino already made it clear that it will be about an actual film critic who mostly wrote about smut films.

“It’s based on a guy who really lived but was never really famous,” says Tarantino. “He was cynical as hell. His reviews were a mix of Howard Stern and Travis Bickle [aus ‘Taxi Driver’].” Now, in addition to Brad Pitt, another mega star is set to become part of the Tarantino film: Tom Cruise!

Tarantino already wanted to work with Tom Cruise in “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood”.

As US magazine CBR reports, the “Mission: Impossible” star is said to be in discussion for a small guest role. Cruise is currently still in front of the camera for reshoots for “Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part 2”, but is trying to carve out a window of time to make an appearance in Tarantino’s final film.

When does “Mission: Impossible 8” start?

After the seventh “Mission: Impossible” film was released last year, it was planned that there would be a follow-up this year. However, the strike by the actors and writers unions delayed production, so “Mission: Impossible 8” will not open in cinemas until May 23, 2025.

Tarantino and Cruise are said to have discussed a possible collaboration on the director’s last film, “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood,” as Tarantino revealed: “We talked about it. [Tom Cruise] is a great guy and we hit it off right away. [Eine Zusammenarbeit] could take place at another time.”

This other times now seems to be within reach. There’s no official confirmation yet, but for a director like Tarantino, Tom Cruise will certainly pull out all the stops to get the chance to work with him one last time.

Reunion after 30 years: Tom Cruise & Brad Pitt

Not only would Tom Cruise’s involvement in “The Movie Critic” mark the first collaboration between Cruise and Tarantino, it would also mean a reunion between Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt. 30 years ago the two starred together in “Interview with a Vampire” (1994).

It remains to be seen which other stars Tarantino will bring in front of the camera for his last film. Many fans, for example, expect Samuel L. Jackson or other acting favorites of the director such as Christoph Waltz, Kurt Russell or Tim Roth, with whom he has already worked repeatedly.

But it could also be that Tarantino wants to take another chance to work with new faces. For example, Marvel star Elizabeth Olsen has expressed great interest in starring in “The Movie Critic.”
