This quiet 80-year-old horticulturist, a veteran of the Korean War, is up to his neck in debt. With no real job prospects, he accepts a particularly easy and lucrative job: that of driver. He is only asked to transport bags from one city to another at the wheel of his old pick-up.

He quickly discovers that it is drugs and that he works for a Mexican cartel : a go fast calm, he thinks. But as his bills fade to bad memories, the weight of his past resurfaces: helping family and friends. He therefore cannot prevent himself from helping them by continuing this activity. But we will have to act quickly, because Colin Bates, an agent of the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA, American federal agency fighting against drug trafficking), interpreted by bradley cooper, begins to hunt down this efficient passer. With a production budget of 50 million dollars, this feature film was a success during its theatrical run, given that it collected nearly $175 million in revenue.

The Mule: Clint Eastwood’s big comeback in front of the camera

In fact, The mule is inspired by the life of a certain Leo Sharp, renamed Earl Stone in the film. A veteran of the Second World War, he became, in the 1980s, Sinaloa Cartel’s oldest and most prolific drug runner. “The best mule in the history of the Sinaloa Cartel was the one we least expected: a 90-year-old gentleman who traveled for his job. They loved him. They received him like a king and let him do what he wanted. That’s where I started”, explained screenwriter Nick Schenk. For the anecdote, Clint Eastwood signs with this feature film his back in front of the camera after 6 years of absence. His last appearance was in the film called A new chancereleased in theaters in 2012.
