The MyTF1 application arrives on Amazon Fire TVs, but with a huge downside

Through a press release, the TF1 group announces the arrival on May 11 of the MyTF1 application on Amazon Fire TV. Unfortunately, access to direct remains subject to the MyTF1 Max subscription… and therefore pays off.

TF1 and Amazon have agreed on a partnership which will soon bring very concrete good news for users of the Fire TV Stick, Fire TV Cube, or even the Echo Show 15 connected screen: the deployment from this 11 May 2023 of the MyTF1 application, and all of its content, on Amazon multimedia keys.

A press release shared for the occasion confirms, however, that this deployment only offers a fragmented access to the content of the TF1 group to the greatest number. Understand that SVoD is essentially available free of charge on the MyTF1 application, but that the group’s channels are subject to the “MyTF1 Max” subscription. You will therefore have to put your hand in your pocket (4.99 euros per month) to take advantage of live broadcasts for TF1, TMC, TFX, TF1 Séries Films and LCI.

TF1 wants (once again) to charge for its free TV

However, this approach is consistent with TF1’s online strategy. At the beginning of 2022, the group had, for example, prevented the Molotov platform from offering its direct broadcasts free of charge on its service. Beaten in court, Molotov had also had to pay 8.5 million euros in damages to TF1 for infringement. The application still offers the channels of the TF1 group, but only in exchange for a subscription set at 5.99 euros per month… which however also allows access to all the channels of the M6 group.

Anyway, TF1 welcomes the agreement reached with Amazon. Already present on connected TVs from Samsung, LG, or even Hisense, but also televisions equipped with Android TV, the MYTF1 application will be able to “strengthen its presence in French homes“Explains the group, which points out that its service already counts some 29 million unique monthly visitors.

The partnership with Amazon marks a new stage in the deployment of MYTF1 on all screens, now accessible to 85% of French people equipped with a connected TV. We are delighted to be able to offer the richness and quality of our content such as The Voice, Koh-Lanta or Daily to Amazon Fire TV users.commented Claire Basini, Deputy General Manager of B2C activities for the TF1 group.

It should be noted, however, that at this stage, the MyTF1 application remains unavailable on Apple TV boxes. A next step for TF1?
