Original article from June 14, 2023 : Volkswagen is one of the generalist manufacturers with one of the most extensive catalogs of electric cars at present. And for good reason, the German firm already markets its ID.3, ID.4, ID.5 and ID. Buzz and prepares the launch of other models.
An amazing partnership
We obviously think of the recently formalized ID.7 and rivaling the Tesla Model 3 as well as the production version of the ID.2all concept presented a few months earlier. But the German manufacturer does not intend to stop there and is still preparing to add other vehicles to your catalog. And one of them would have already been glimpsed in a way that is surprising to say the least.
Indeed, the German manufacturer has just announced in a press release that it has signed a partnership with ZAG and Mediawan Kids & Family, two film production companies. These are responsible for producing the next feature film Miraculouswhich will be released in theaters on July 5 and on the Netflix streaming platform from July 28.
But what is the relationship between this children’s film, which tells the adventures of Marinette and Adrien, who turn into Ladybug and Cat Noir and the automobile? Well as he says, the manufacturer is committed to becoming a ” love brand” , ie a brand that maintains a real emotional bond with its customers. For this, Volkswagen will drive all the characters of the film with its electric cars. A strategy also adopted by General Motors, which has partnered with Netflix.
So, Chat Noir will drive an ID.4, one of the manufacturer’s best-selling models in France and Europe in recent months. Gabriel Agreste will be at the wheel of the ID concept. Vizzion, which foreshadowed the current ID.7 now unveiled. For his part, the baker Tom Dupain will make his deliveries aboard a Volkswagen ID. Buzz, which we had also been able to test a few months earlier.
A unique concept
And Ladybug in all this? Well, the young girl, who turns into a superheroine to protect Paris alongside Chat Noir, has been assigned a model that is a little different from the others. It is in fact aa reinvented and above all 100% electric Volkswagen Beetle. A logical choice, because Ladybug precisely designates the little insect with polka dots in the language of Shakespeare.
But what is surprising is that all the vehicles present in the film are concept cars that have given life to production cars. Except this Ladybug. An unprecedented way for the brand ofannounce new model coming soon ? It is obviously not excluded that this is the case, while Volkswagen evokes a ” model still in the concept car state“, which was recently seen on the streets of the capital and immortalized in a video posted on Youtube.
It could be that the German firm is keen to revive its legendary little car, as it plans to keep the Golf name for a future electric car. Especially since the neo-retro has been making a strong comeback for a few years, while Renault has already adopted it with its future R5 E-Tech. A return to basics that gives ideas to Volkswagen? This is quite likely.
While waiting to know more, it will be necessary settle for the future ID.2, which will act as an entry-level electric model, with a price below the 25,000 euro mark. Later, an even more affordable car will be launched, with a price that should not exceed 20,000 euros.
