A group of hackers claims to have hacked the French National Assembly this weekend. The collective has already given its motivations.

This weekend, the KromSec group, accustomed to attacking French institutions, this time announced that it had hacked the French National Assembly, as revealed by ethical hacker Clément Domingo (aka SAXX). The hacker group justifies its action by the country’s positions in international conflicts, in addition to the lack of real reaction to a previous ministerial hack.

The KromSec group claims its attack, the Assembly investigates

The KromSec group, known for its targeted attacks, therefore claims to have infiltrated the National Assembly, with a computer attack of a certain magnitude, which necessarily raises concerns about the digital security of the country.

The reasons put forward by the KromSec group include France’s position in international conflicts, in particular the one between Palestine and Israel today. The attackers also mention the hacking of the Ministry of Justice that was not taken seriously a few months ago, which led to the publication on the dark web of numerous data belonging to lawyers and magistrates.

Other reasons, still unknown, were put forward by the group, accentuating the need for increased vigilance. Partial information was leaked, suggesting possible access to multiple websites.

Potential access to data from collaborators and visitors to the National Assembly

As the National Assembly teams are on the case, I will not go into further details », explains Clément Domingo. French authorities are engaged in an in-depth investigation into the scale of the cyberattack. The KromSec group’s claim is in any case supported by screenshots, which suggest a potential compromise of the systems.

We are talking here about data coming from several sites, which could, for example, affect employees or visitors to the Palais Bourbon. KromSec threatens in any case to publish or sell the data obtained after careful sorting. This tactic highlights the need for increased vigilance, as France continues to be the target of increasingly virulent cybercriminal groups.

Despite the numerous cyberattacks foiled in France, some manage to get past the defenses. The approach of the 2024 Olympic Games increases risks and fuels concerns, while in a few months the French nation will be placed at the center of the world.
