Citroën announced on Monday the arrival of the electric Berlingo, its new compact family vehicle, expected in dealerships in spring 2024.

Let it be said, the new Citroën Berlingo, the MPV par excellence, is being transformed with a design that is both modern and expressive. Inside, a unique dashboard and advanced comfort seats define a sedan experience, and make you want to know more. Please note, the model will only be available in an electric version in Europe from next year. The ë-Berlingo in any case promises to extend its autonomy and offer its users 7 seats in the passenger compartment. Let’s see what Citroën offers us.

A modern ë-Berlingo, with added practicality

On the design side to begin with, the new Berlingo sports a bold exterior shape, with a completely redesigned front end, corresponding to the manufacturer’s new aesthetic identity. Certain details, such as the grille, the new headlights and the airbumps, give it a modern and robust look.

The interior is also evolving, with a dashboard that aims to be futuristic, all accompanied by a 10-inch touch screen, a heated steering wheel (optional, useful precision), increased ergonomics and a rather refined aesthetic.

Citroën has shown ingenuity for the ë-Berlingo, with so-called “Advanced Comfort” seats, that is to say three individual rear seats, and the “Modutop” multifunction roof, a set which offers up to 27 storage spaces, distributed in a passenger compartment whose volume can reach 186 liters. The loading space of the model, which has sliding side doors (and the electric window lifts which are always very user-friendly), is between 775 liters (Berlingo size M) and 4,000 liters (in size XL), to meet the various needs of drivers.

An electric range of up to 320 km

Before talking about autonomy, let’s talk about connectivity and driving aids. The ë-Berlingo accommodates, on its new board and as you saw a little above, two levels of 10-inch touch screen, and the My Citroën Play multimedia systems (radio, telephone management, functions of the car) and My Citroën Drive Plus (connected 3D navigation, natural voice recognition).

The vehicle is also equipped with 18 driving assistance technologies, including the reversing camera, adaptive cruise control and the electric parking brake, which should in theory offer safe driving pleasure. A wireless smartphone charger and regenerative charging enhance everyday practicality.

Finally, the ë-Berlingo evolves with a range of up to 320 km (compared to 275 km for the previous model), all powered by a 50 kWh LFP battery and a 100 kW (136 hp) engine. The vehicle offers rather convincing charging times, with half an hour on hand to reach 80% from a 100 kW public terminal. On a much more conventional terminal (7.4 kW), the complete charge will take 7h30. A new regenerative braking system and an optional heat pump are to complement the ë-Berlingo’s energy efficiency.

A word about the price before leaving us: we do not know it at the moment. It is nevertheless a safe bet that its starting price is slightly above the previous model, which started in size M at more than 30,000 euros.
