The next Samsung Galaxy will feature live AI call translation

Samsung’s high-end Galaxy smartphones launching next year will feature AI-powered live call translations and other AI features, the South Korean tech giant said on Thursday.

Live call translation is just one of the features of Samsung’s new Galaxy AI. The module offers a “complete mobile AI experience” based on AI processors positioned on smartphones, and cloud-based AI tools from its partners.

Galaxy AI is “scheduled for early next year,” Samsung said, indicating that it is very likely that it will be introduced on the Galaxy S24 series which will debut at that time.

Translated conversations do not leave the smartphone

According to Samsung, the translation feature, called AI Live Translate Call, is integrated into the native calling feature, so third-party apps won’t be necessary.

When on a call with someone speaking another language, audio and text translation will appear in real time, the company said.

The feature is supported by the device’s artificial intelligence, so private conversations don’t leave the smartphone, Samsung added.

Samsung set to launch more AI features on its products

“Galaxy AI is our most comprehensive AI offering yet, and it will forever change the way we design our smartphones,” said Wonjoon Choi, head of research and development at Samsung MX.

Samsung appears poised to launch more AI features on its products. On Wednesday, the company unveiled its generative AI model called Samsung Gauss, which consists of language, code and image models. Samsung said that Samsung Gauss will be applied to various products in the future.
