The Nintendo 64’s GoldenEye 007 has finally found its way to the Xbox (and the Switch?)

According to this list of Achievements, the multiplayer that left so many memories for Nintendo 64 players who gathered after school will be present in addition to the campaign, whose missions with various objectives were based on the most famous sequences of the 1995 film. Note that the screenshots accompanying these Achievements suggest an outright porting of the Nintendo 64 game, a classic FPS console of that time.

Absent from modern platforms, GoldenEye 007 has long been blocked by complications involving the rights holders of the James Bond franchise (EON Productions, MGM), the right to use the appearance of comedians like Pierce Brosnan and of course the fact that the game was developed by Rare ( studio transferred to Xbox in 2002) on behalf of Nintendo, which had purchased the adaptation rights to the film.

At the start of 2021, GoldenEye 007 He was talking about him thanks to the leak of his remaster initially intended for release on Xbox 360 in 2008, before Nintendo finally decided that he was “out of the question for a Nintendo game to be released on a Microsoft console“, according to former employees of Rare. But 15 years later, the times have changed, the leaders too and the circumstances are not at all the same any more. For example the appearance of a Banjo-Kazooie (today ‘hui property of Microsoft) in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

In addition to benefiting Microsoft, since the game is expected on Xbox, the release of GoldenEye 007 could also take place on Switch, probably as part of the Nintendo 64 games included in the Nintendo Switch Online + Additional Pack subscription. As for James Bond, whose last film became the third biggest success of the saga in the cinema, he would treat himself to a nice bowl of nostalgia on the occasion of his 60th birthday. All while waiting for IO Interactive to lift the veil on its Project 007.
