After the partial collapse of a high-rise building in Florida last Thursday, the number of deaths increased. An eleventh person was recovered dead from the rubble. This was confirmed by the head of administration for the Miami Dade district, Daniella Levine Cava, on Monday (local time). 150 people are still missing.
She stressed that the search for victims in the rubble was going on. Some residents were able to take the stairs to safety or were rescued from balconies. It is feared, however, that many more were surprised by the collapse in their sleep.
Collapse as residents slept
The building near the beach with around 130 residential units had partially collapsed on Thursday night. The misfortune surprised people in their sleep. Since then, a desperate search for survivors has been going on.
But no survivors have been found during the search and rescue work for days. The authorities therefore fear that the number of victims will increase significantly. (SDA)
