“We are doing very well in relation to our objective. » Four months before the start of the Olympic Games, Fabrice Lacroix, the financial director of the Paris 2024 Organizing Committee, does not hide his satisfaction with what concerns one of the aspects of his budget: revenue. “We are at more than 90%” of the 4.4 billion euros planned, he assures. “They would have told me, two years ago, that we would be at this level four months before the Games, I admit that I would still have hesitated to put my hand to cutting. »
The partnership program “is almost complete, we are approaching 1.25 billion euros where the initial target was 1.08 billion”adds Michaël Aloïsio, the deputy general manager. “And for ticketing, things are progressing quite well, since we exceeded one billion euros a few weeks ago and are approaching 1.1 billion. »
On spending, on the other hand, the situation is more tense. “In an event of this nature, it is often on expenses that we must manage risks”confirms Mr. Lacroix, who assures that these are “managed over time”, through a continuous assessment of possible and proven hazards.
“We spend our time looking for savings, redeploying amounts, doing things on a slightly smaller scale to cover a risk that has arisen”details the financial director of Paris 2024, who also assumes that, in this context, he is sometimes led to solicit some of the stakeholders in the organization of the Games.
“ I say it loud and cleardeclares Mr. Lacroix, I will continue to ask our stakeholders the question to know if they can cover certain costs, I will have no qualms so that the budget for the Games is always in balance and that we deliver the most beautiful Games possible. »
This is why Cojop recently asked the Ile-de-France region if it could cover the cost of transport, this summer, of accredited people (more than 200,000 officials, members of technical teams, athletes and journalists ) and to the City of Paris if it could respond to the requests for compensation that would be made by parking concessionaires in Paris, affected by the security and traffic ban measures. In both cases, these requests were rejected by the public authorities concerned.
While listening to certain public actors, the risk of a Paris 2024 deficit has not been completely ruled out, Mr. Lacroix assures for his part that, even if management is “in permanent tension to maintain balance” of the budget, it “there is no major issue in achieving this balance”. “There is no worry about the final landing”he says, while saying he knows that “it will be difficult until the end”.
