The PS5 Pro would run games in 8k, enough to forget the PS6!

The PS5 Pro still has things to say, a lot of things! While we learned a few hours ago of new details concerning the technical specifications of the machine, insider Tom Henderson returns once again with new elements under his belt. This time, we’re going to talk about what everyone is waiting for: the visual rendering and the famous framerate!

The PS5 Pro promises very heavy stuff, 4K and 8k within reach!

While the standard PS5 already boasted of being able to display 8K and promised us 4K at 60 fps, reality will have taught us that this is generally not the case. Yes, there are a few games capable of displaying such performances, but on average, 4K is either at 30 fps (coughing often) or upscale, and 8K is more of a marketing argument than something else, or maybe a few indie games are getting there. With its PS5 Pro, Sony, on the other hand, plans to shake up everything. The latest rumors tell us that the console would be overpowering, 4K 60 fps would this time be a standard and we were already talking about 8K.

The very informed Henderson reaffirms this while also adding that the technology embedded in the machine would aim even further. According to information held by the insider, PSSR (an in-house upscaling technology similar to Nvidia’s DLSS) could actually display 4K at 120 fps, and 8K at 60 fps. Yes, it’s beautiful on paper, very beautiful even. However, nothing says that this will indeed happen with the PS5 Pro even if it will rely on the famous PSSR to reach resolutions that were previously impossible to maintain. For now, it would mainly be the next generation of consoles which would benefit from it and therefore, the PS6.

But the PS5 Pro has it in its belly and has its own internal objectives. Still according to his information, Henderson tells us that the main objective of the PS5 Pro is to be able to offer games playable in 4K at 60 fps without having to ask questions, but also to go for 8K at 30 fps. We would therefore be in an in-between situation while waiting for the next generation of consoles, but also the democratization of 8K screens which are not yet commonplace, unlike 4K, which has almost become a standard.

To illustrate this data, Henderson shared two examples given to him, concerning two games whose identity is not known.

Game 1 : objective – Quality mode at 1800p with Performance mode at 60fps

  • PS5 Standard: Performance Mode in 1080p at 60fps / Quality Mode in 1800p at 30 fps
  • PS5 Pro: 1440p at 60 fps (PSSR enabled)

Game 2 : Objective – Ray Tracing activated

  • PS5 Standard: 60 fps without Ray Tracing PS5 Pro: 60 fps with Ray Tracing
