The director of The Quarry, Will Byles, recently discussed the influence of Until Dawn on the next title from the Supermassive Games studio. In an interview with IGN reporters, Will Byles explains that The Quarry is quite similar to Until Dawnin the sense that both games feature teenagers and are similar to a ” teen-horror movie “. In addition, the two titles stage monsters, vectors of horror.
Nevertheless, the developers go a little further, with The Quarry, by proposing more in-depth character building. In addition, Supermassive Games has placed greater emphasis on the relational aspect in The Quarry, than in Until Dawn. Thus, the players will no longer have the sole objective of staying alive, but they will also have to be careful with their choices, depending on the relationships between the characters.
Moreover, the technique is no longer the same as that used for Until Dawn. Supermassive Games now has its own tool to facilitate the development of their games. In addition, Motion Capture has improved over time and this allows for more realistic and accurate modeling than before.
So, in general, The Quarry seems to be the spiritual successor to Until Dawn, but the developers did not just copy and paste.
