A production company has secured the rights to the book of the Netflix hit "The Ladies' Gambit" and is turning it into a musical.

The production company Level Forward has secured the rights to the novel "The Queen's Gambit" by Walter Tevis, on which the Netflix hit "The Queen's Gambit" is based, in order to turn it into a musical. In a statement, according to The Hollywood Reporter, CEO Adrienne Becker and producer Julia Dunetz said: "The story is a siren call in the midst of our current struggles for gender and justice, and we look forward to moving the project forward."

"The Queen's Gambit" is about Beth Harmon, played in the series by Anya Taylor-Joy (24, "Peaky Blinders"), an orphan who struggled through the male-dominated chess world of the 1960s and her pill addiction. The series quickly developed into an ingenious move for Netflix: According to the streaming service, 62 million households saw the story in the first 28 days – which makes it the most successful miniseries on the streaming platform. It has also received two Golden Globes and two Critics' Choice Awards.
