In order to accelerate the installation on the territory of its connected meters, Enedis is preparing, from January 2023, to invoice the meter readings of households not equipped with Linky.

This is a measure that risks displeasing the 3.8 million households that are not yet equipped with a meter Linky. From this month of January 2023, Enedis is preparing to bill the meter reading to households still equipped with a traditional meter. A choice that arouses the discontent of many users, especially since a counter scam Linky was spotted some time ago. What annoy a little more the French, already concerned about the rising cost of energy and the many power cuts planned for this winter.

Households that have not yet done the necessary or refuse to install the meter Linky will now be charged a bill of 59.76 euros per year by the company Enedis. An invoice implemented by the company’s national management to encourage them to adopt the company’s connected meter. So far, officers Enedis came free of charge to users’ homes to take meter readings. It is now over.

Accelerate national deployment

The objective of this measure is to accelerate the deployment of meters Linky, launched on December 1, 2015, more than 7 years ago. And the company seems determined to make these diehards flinch. Enedis has indeed announced that this temporary measure will be implemented between January 1, 2023 and 2025. Beyond this date, the company indicates that “these readings will be invoiced in all cases, unless the home concerned is officially equipped with a Linky meter in good working order”.

Faced with the discontent of users and certain collectives for the defense of consumer rights, the company defended itself through a press release. “Sending agents on a daily basis to take or monitor these readings at a cost to our business, as does the processing of this data when sent by customers”explains the company before continuing: “It doesn’t seem fair to us to pass this cost on to all consumers. We just ask for the real cost of these interventions, which therefore only concern people who are not equipped with a Linky meter on the day of our reading”. Not sure that these explanations are enough to appease the spirits, or even to encourage the refractory to go to the meter Linky.
