The repair bonus extends to smartphone screens

Perhaps you will learn from this article the existence of the repair bonus? Established a year ago, this state aid encourages the repair of a broken product, instead of replacing it with the purchase of a new model. Since January 1, 2024, it has been of growing interest with the support of 24 new devices and the doubling of the premium for certain products.

Provided for by the anti-waste law for a circular economy (AGEC), this repair bonus aims to fight against waste and planned obsolescence. The amount is deducted directly from the invoice of the consumer who goes to a certified repairer to have their equipment repaired.

From 15 to 60 euros

73 equipment can now benefit from this aid of between 15 and 60 euros. Among the 24 new eligible devices, we find desktop or all-in-one computers, printers, scanners, monitors or landline telephones. The repair bonus now covers the accidental breakage of a smartphone screen for 25 euros in addition to the battery, speaker, microphone or photo lens.

The amount of the repair bonus also increases by 5 euros for more than twenty pieces of equipment including the drone which increases from 15 to 20 euros or the laptop which increases from 45 to 50 euros. In the latter case, the aid trigger threshold is reduced from 180 to 150 euros. Five devices saw the amount of their repair bonus double: washing machine, dishwasher, dryer, vacuum cleaner and television. The amount of the premium for a television thus increases from 30 to 60 euros.

Remote repairs covered

Another change: remote repairs are now covered by the repair bonus and no longer only repairs carried out in the workshop or store of the certified repairer or at the individual’s home. To encourage the French to turn to professionals favoring the circular economy, aid will be increased by 20% when the repair uses reconditioned parts.

To benefit from the repair bonus, a consumer must go through a QualiRépar-certified repairer, listed on the Ecosystem website. The repaired device must have been purchased in France and no longer be covered by a warranty, extended warranty or insurance.

Once certified by a certifying body, the repairer can deduct the bonus amount from his customer’s invoice. Reimbursement by the eco-organization is made within a maximum of 15 days. The Ministry of Ecology reminds that having your television repaired allows you to make a carbon saving of 95 kg of CO2 equivalent, or the equivalent of 350 kilometers by car.
