The Deputy Minister of Commerce Olivia Grégoire has just announced that the meal ticket card will be generalized for all employees in the coming years.

Digital technology is increasingly taking over all the details of our lives previously managed in paper format. We have thus seen the receipt lose its automaticity, and be able to be replaced by an email, an SMS or even a QR Code. And at the beginning of October, it’s a new paper that will begin its slow disappearance according to the government!

2026, the deadline for the dematerialization of restaurant vouchers

Minister Olivia Grégoire had an important announcement to make this Monday, October 2 on the France Info set. “ I am launching the dematerialization of restaurant vouchers “, she declared, “ so that before 2026, we can be everything dematerialized “.

The objective is to make the tool both simpler for employees, but also for restaurateurs. A quarter of them still refuse the famous ticket because of the complications created by the latter, in particular due to the existence of both a paper ticket and a card.

This is therefore the card that was chosen. “ Good news in terms of administrative management for employees “, according to THE vice-president of the National Association of HR Directors Benoît Serre.

An extension of the expiry date of tickets?

And the reform should affect many people, since currently 5 million French people are entitled to meal vouchers. However, this materialization will have to face certain challenges.

What to do, for example, in the case where employees give their meal vouchers to associations, or even for some to homeless people? “ There is additional work to be done to know how we dematerialize while maintaining the fairly flexible nature of the use of meal vouchers. », confessed Benoît Serre.

Furthermore, the same Benoît Serre pleaded for an extension of the expiry date of restaurant vouchers, with the idea of being able to continue to use them to buy food products after December 31. An idea that the government could adopt to combat the impact of inflation?
