That was already six years ago! In 2018, Laurent Tirard directed The Return of the Hero. In it, Jean Dujardin lends his features to Captain Neuville, who finds himself transformed into a hero thanks to a trick of the sister of his bride, Elisabeth, played by Mélanie Laurent. The film featuring the two stars was shot in part in Bullion and Saint-Rémy-lès-Chevreusein Yvelines, but also in Gerberoy, in Oise, at the castles of Nandy and Courances, in Seine-et-Marne, at the castle of Grosbois, in Val-de-Marne, and finally, in Ambleville, in the Val d’Oise.
Scenes were also filmed in the Carneaux meadows in Bullion. “For the occasion, Bernard Daniel, from Bullion, had developed the site to transform it into a battlefield. A sand track and two pits had been created for the 50 horsemen who charged invisible enemies in a cloud of dust“, reports the Actu site. During an interview, Laurent Tirard also assured that castles were not always suitable for filming. “What was very interesting was that we discovered that there were a lot of these castles, generally private, which are not in very good condition and the arrival of a film crew often suits the owner because that after our departure and the work we carry out there, the place looks better than when we arrived! There are also extremely well preserved residences, where the constraints are indeed numerous”he reported.
Mélanie Laurent: “It exhausted me”
During a previous interview, Mélanie Laurent assured that filming Return of the Hero had been particularly exhausting for her. “There was a lot of text to say! I said to myself: ‘I play the scene that we start over quite a few times and that’s where I realize that it’s very physical: I have to run, I have to fall, I have to catch Jean , that I was almost hysterical… So I knew the scenario by heart, I had prepared things very seriously a month before, but there, having to do and redo the takes in the breath, the movement and this flow of speech, It exhausted me.”she confided.
