After the long winter months, our skin needs particularly intensive care in spring before sunbathing for the first time.

The first spring sun invites you to sunbathe. With these tips we prepare our skin for the sun and prevent skin damage.

Spring greets us with its rays of sunshine. We long to be outside and to sunbathe extensively. But it can come as quite a shock to our skin – if we approach it unprepared. These tips will help slowly get your pale winter skin used to the sun.

The right care for the individual skin type

Everyone has a different skin type and their needs are therefore different. In order to ensure an even and beautifully soft tan, it is generally advisable to prepare the skin with care measures. A gentle peeling removes old skin cells and cleans the pores. A rich and moisturizing care cream afterwards provides the skin with everything it needs.

Before summer, a visit to the cosmetics studio can also be worthwhile to have the care carried out professionally. You can also find out what skin type you have and how sensitive your skin is to the sun by talking to experts. As a rule of thumb, one can say: the darker the skin tone, the higher the self-protection time.

Healthy diet and strong immune system

Every sunbath stresses our skin and thus our immune system. By eating healthily and taking vitamins, we can ensure that antioxidants make our skin less vulnerable. These act against the free radicals that are responsible for our skin aging prematurely.

With the right foods, the dose of carotenoids such as beta-carotene, lycopene and lutein in the body can also be increased. For example, our body can store small amounts of beta-carotene and thus build up light sun protection from the inside out. However, this does not replace sunscreen!

Carotenoids are found in foods like peppers, sweet potatoes, carrots, apricots, tomatoes, kale, and spinach. They develop their effect best in combination with fat. That means: A fresh summer salad with a good, high-quality oil is the perfect meal for more sun protection.

Every day a little more

The last and most valuable tip: A common mistake is to completely overwhelm the body at the beginning of spring. We often expose our skin to the sun for far too long and too intensely. It is much better to gradually get your skin used to the sun. With short stays outdoors, with a walk or a coffee break on the terrace, we can increase the “dose” a little more every day. Taking your lunch break in the sun is not a good idea: the sun is highest and shines most intensely from around 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. In addition, you should of course apply a cream with sufficient UV protection and, ideally, integrate a hat or sunglasses into your spring outfit.
