You can be the richest man in the world, and still be under pressure. This is all the more true when one wishes to adapt the universe of JRR Tolkien into a television series, entitled The Rings of Power. But to whom did Jeff Bezos have to report? Amazon group admins? To Tolkien’s heirs? Nay!

In an interview with our colleagues from varietythe founder of the Blue Origin space project (which allowed William Shatner – Captain Kirk! – to travel into space) has revealed the discussion he had with his son, shortly after acquiring the adaptation rights from Lord of the Rings.

A huge fan of Tolkien’s work, Bezos’ son strongly urged him not to “screw up” the series, during a discussion “eye to eye”. A message taken extremely seriously by the founder of Amazon, having meanwhile discovered The Lord of the Rings novels as a teenager, on the advice of his grandfather.

Remember that the series The Rings of Power is not strictly speaking an adaptation of Tolkien, since it is an original story built from various elements provided by the Appendices included at the end of the third volume of the Lord of the Rings, The Return of the King.

The first two episodes of the series will be available from this Friday, September 2 on Amazon Prime Video, which will then broadcast the program on a weekly basis each Friday.
