In The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, a lump of mithril heals the leaf that Elrond brought from Lindon. But why is this happening?
- Mithril is magical – at least that’s what the Amazon series “The Lord of the Rings – The Rings of Power” establishes.
- The metal can even banish evil and heal a leaf of lindon.
- Only the Balrog in the mines of Khazad-dum can now stop the elves from mining the ore.

Mithril is Middle-earth’s ultimate when it comes to metal – The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power takes it a step further, giving the ore magical powers. Elfking Gil-Galad puts all his hopes in an old heroic song and episode 7 seems to confirm what he suspects.
The mithril lying in the mines of Khazad-dum may indeed, as the Song of the Roots of Hithaeglir says, arise from the last Silmaril (and a battle between an Elf and a Balrog). At least the metal has special powers.
For shortly after Durin IV hurls the lump Elrond returned to him next to a leaf of Lindon blackened with evil, it suddenly regains its health. Mithril healed the elf leaf. Exactly why is not clear, but the theory that mithril is essential in the fight against evil and can save the elves is so certain.
The mithril is important enough that the elves mine it themselves and take their chances, Durin III. and anger the remaining dwarves of Khazad-dum. But against the common enemy, the awakened Balrog, elves and dwarves could join forces again. The grand finale of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power Season 1 awaits you on October 14, 2022.
