the rules to respect for a marriage

Since June 2, couples can again say "yes" after two months of prohibition. Under what conditions is it possible to get married? We take stock of the health constraints required to celebrate marriages.

Couples can finally say "yes" since June 2. "For a long time, weddings were delayed. Fortunately, this period is over: we will finally be able to start again to celebrate marriages ", announced Edouard Philippe on May 28. But under what conditions ? What health rules should be observed? We take stock of the measures to respect for summer weddings 2020.

Gathering of 10 people maximum

At the town hall, the decree of May 31, 2020, published on June 1 in the Official Journal according to France Info, indicates weddings must be carried out with a maximum of ten people in the wedding halls, in order to respect social distancing.

The privileged ten who attend the ceremony must stand a meter from each other and they are strongly advised to wear a mask, in accordance with the barrier gestures established by the government.

For the festivals which generally take place after the civil, secular or religious ceremony, the conditions will be very strict too. In the orange zone, the bride and groom and guests will be limited to ten people and may only meet on the terrace. The newlyweds will not be able to receive their guests in multi-purpose rooms, meeting rooms, marquees or tents, according to the decree published on June 1.

In green areas, less affected by the coronavirus, the festivities can take place in multipurpose rooms, marquees, tents, restaurants … However, managers must ensure that there is a seat between each person and no more ten guests per table. And no grouping, so we must forget the traditional passage on the dance floor.

Religious ceremonies

For religious marriages, places of worship are subject to strict rules to ensure compliance with barrier gestures. In churches, the distance of one meter between guests must be respected and each person must have a surface of four square meters.

According to the recommendations of the Ministry of the Interior, wearing a mask is compulsory and hydroalcoholic gel is recommended. Religious rites must be adapted to minimize physical contact.

Can we get married in a private place?

The Government indicates that "Even in the municipalities located in the orange zone, the celebration of marriages can be done in the presence of an enlarged assembly, the number of people of which is determined according to the size of the wedding hall and the possibility of enforcing the barrier distance of one meter between people ". The best way to organize a warmer ceremony is toorganize the wedding in a private place, where the limit of ten participants maximum no longer exists. Depending on the size of the room, the bride and groom may invite more guests.

The Interior Ministry recalls, however, that "hygiene measures must be applied in all places and in all circumstances, including in private places".
