The sale of 200 pairs of Vuitton-Nike sneakers designed by Virgil Abloh totals $25 million

The sale of 200 pairs of Vuitton-Nike sneakers designed by Virgil Abloh totaled $25 million on Thursday.

The pair averaged over $100,000, with the most expensive reaching over $350,000.

Two hundred pairs of the iconic Nike Air Force 1 revisited by Virgil Abloh, the American artistic director of Louis Vuitton who died two months ago, had been auctioned at 2,000 dollars.

Announced on January 19, this sale organized jointly between Sotheby’s and the famous French luxury brand Louis Vuitton was eagerly awaited by sneaker collectors. The 200 pairs of Nike-Louis Vuitton sneakers were sold online to benefit charity.

Each pair was sold with a Louis Vuitton pilot case in the brand’s signature orange colour.

“Dressed” in the famous LV monogrammed checkerboard canvas in brown, white and cream colors, this mythical Nike Air Force 1 was presented in June 2021 during the Spring-Summer 2022 Louis Vuitton show.

Male artistic director of the French brand, Virgil Abloh, American stylist and king of luxury streetwear, died on November 28, 2021 of cancer, at only 41 years old. The auction house and Louis Vuitton said the designer had been involved in organizing the sale before his death. The proceeds from this will be donated to the “Virgil Abloh Post-Modern Scholarship Fund”, a university scholarship granted to students of African-American and African descent.

Louis Vuitton will inaugurate an exhibition presenting the 47 original pairs of the Spring-Summer 2022 Men’s collection, the details of which will be announced later. This event will precede the commercial launch of the Nike-Vuitton sneakers created by Virgil Abloh, which will be available for sale in limited quantities and exclusively in the network of Louis Vuitton stores.
