On the occasion of Geeked Week, Netflix has formalized the upcoming launch of a new animated series based on the license Terminator.
In recent days, the good old vintage robot has been popular. After RoboCop and Grendizer, both back in video games, Terminator is also back in the spotlight. No new video game adaptation, however, for the license launched on our screens in 1984, but rather an animated series version, coming soon to Netflix.
Terinmator: The Anime Seriessoon on Netflix
In fact, the American platform has decided to reshape the saga Terminator into a new animated series, which should arrive “ Soon » within the Netflix catalog. For the moment, the SVOD service has not provided a lot of details concerning this series Terminator: The Anime Serieswe just know that the latter will take us back to the end of August 1997.
The subtle teaser posted online does not allow us to discover the slightest image of the upcoming series, but we can nevertheless (re)discover the iconic musical theme, without forgetting a production entrusted to Skydance and the Japanese company Production IG, at the origin in particular of Ghost in the Shell.
New faces (and well-known heroes?)
Terminator: The Anime Series will therefore take us back to August 1997, when the AI Skynet became self-aware and turned against humans. The series should feature new characters, but we imagine (at least, we hope) that well-known heroes will also be there.
According to Netflix, the series will follow a female soldier sent back in time to change the destiny of humanity. She will arrive in 1997 to protect a scientist named Malcolm Lee who is working to launch a new AI system designed to rival Skynet’s impending attack on humanity. The latter will obviously be chased by a robot from the future…
In all likelihood, this new animated series based on Terminator should land on Netflix sometime next year. Very recently, the animated series Tomb Raider, also expected on Netflix in 2024, was revealed through a first trailer.
