Despite its many detractors, Tesla still manages to impose its style in Europe. In 2023, the American manufacturer has exceeded all expectations and its Model Y is the best-selling vehicle on the entire continent.

After being crowned the best-selling car in the world in the first quarter of 2023, the Tesla Model Y continues its meteoric rise. This is today the best-selling model in Europe, all energies combined. The manufacturer has outdone all the others, even returning the Dacia Sandero to second place in the ranking. A feat further accompanied by a drop in its selling price in France. Who can stop him?

The fall of a queen

For many years, the Volkswagen Golf reigned supreme in European sales. In 2022, the Stellantis group managed to overtake the German giant thanks to the excellent performance of its small city car, the Peugeot 208. This despite the real disaster of the 1.2 PureTech, a disastrous engine due to its very low reliability.

The French manufacturer did not really take the time to savor its success, because Tesla overtook it the following year. A victory which demonstrates a major change in the European automotive landscape.

A rather unexpected triumph

Even if we knew the success of Tesla’s SUV, it was difficult to imagine it taking this coveted place. The figures come to us from the specialized publication Automotive News Europe, and they are unequivocal. In 2023, the Model Y has therefore sold 254,822 copies. For its part, Dacia still presents excellent results with its Sandero (235,893 models delivered) but remains well and truly behind.

Not only is this the very first time that an electric vehicle has dominated the European market, but the fact that it is such a large vehicle is also an unprecedented fact. Europe is becoming more and more passionate about SUVs, there is no longer even the shadow of a doubt! Historic European manufacturers really have something to worry about, particularly with regard to electricity. Between the Tesla tidal wave and the many Chinese competing brands, the atmosphere is one of adversity.
