“The Walking Dead: Dead City” shows more of the old Negan again. He swapped “Lucille” for a cheese grater, causing a violent scene.
Over the course of “The Walking Dead,” the former leader of the Saviors, Negan (played by Jeffrey Dean Morgan), has developed into a kind of ambiguous heroic figure. He showed compassion, loyalty and fought alongside our heroes for their freedom.
In the spin-off “The Walking Dead: Dead City,” the survivalist agrees to help Maggie (played by Lauren Cohan) free her son Hershel (played by Logan Kim) from the clutches of a ruthless serial killer. But during this dangerous mission on the streets of Manhattan, Negan must bring out his ruthless side. If you don’t want to be spoiled, you shouldn’t read any further.
Negan’s cheese grater rivals his baseball bat, Lucille
Negan is a wanted man in “The Walking Dead: Dead City.” After he seeks revenge for what was done to his wife Annie, the Marshals of New Babylon hunt down the ex-Savior. So there are a lot of “Wanted” posters of Negan spread around New York. In episode 3, a new ally of Negan and Maggie also finds one of these.
This is how a very tall and very muscular Luther confronts Negan in a kitchen while he is looking for suitable weapons to attack the Croatian. First, Negan tries to calm the giant Luther and let him pass. But he is adamant and orders Negan to leave immediately.
Negan kills Luther with the help of a cheese grater
But in “Dead City” we can expect a lot from the old Negan, who many missed at the end of “The Walking Dead”. So he doesn’t give up without a fight and first pulls out a frying pan to beat his opponent and promptly gets creative when he fails with the pan. He tears Luther’s forehead open with a cheese grater, so that he can no longer see much, falls backwards and is pierced by a pipe.
Leaving nothing to chance, Negan crushes the dying man’s head. Not a scene for the faint-hearted! Negan actor Jeffrey Dean Morgan took the scene with humor. In an interview with US magazine Entertainment Weekly he laughs and reveals:
The facial rub killed it. I was like, ‘Really? I kill him with a face rub? The guy is almost two meters tall and consists of around 100 kilos of muscle mass. Negan isn’t that kind of guy. But his survival instinct kicks in: ‘What can I use to defend myself?’ A cheese grater happened to be at hand and he can use it to keep the guy away from him.
Morgan also welcomes being able to show such sides of his character Negan again. For him, this scene is just an example of how his character will do anything to achieve his goal – no matter how ugly and dirty it gets.
