The Witcher Season 4: Filming of the Netflix production has started – “Game of Thrones” star becomes part of the cast

THE WITCHER

“The Witcher” season 4 will be different than its predecessors: main actor Henry Cavill is leaving and another Witcher is taking over. A “Game of Thrones” actor has now been confirmed for the start of filming.

  • The Netflix series “The Witcher” was renewed for a fourth season before the start of the third season.
  • Actor Henry Cavill will no longer appear as Geralt of Rivia in the new episodes of the fantasy saga.
  • Filming has now begun and the actors for Stribog and Nimue have been found.

Even before the start of “The Witcher” season 3, Netflix extended the popular fantasy series for a fourth season. But at the same time came the sad news that Henry Cavill is leaving “The Witcher” after season 3. But the story continues without him.

It is now even clear that there will be a fifth season of “The Witcher”. But that’s where the story ends, it represents the big series finale.

The Witcher Season 4: Start Date

Due to the writers and actors strikes in 2023, many productions had to be postponed. The fourth season of “The Witcher” is no exception. Production of the new season began in mid-April 2024 and is expected to continue until October 2024.

We assume that “The Witcher” season 4 will appear on Netflix in summer 2025 at the earliest.

The Witcher Season 4: Trailer

A trailer for “The Witcher” season 4 is still a long way off. We don’t expect moving images for the new episodes until the end of 2024 at the earliest.

The Witcher Season 4: Plot

The end of “The Witcher” Season 3 introduced some events that become important in the Witcher novel “Baptism of Fire.” This is how the book by Andrzej Sapkowski deals with Geralt’s journey to Nilfgaard, which he embarks on with the archer Milva, the dwarf Zoltan Chivay as well as Dandelion, the knight Cahir and the vampire Regis.

Ciri now lives under the code name Falka as part of a teenage criminal group called the Rat Gang. She discovers her passion for murder. Leo Bonhart will be an important antagonist of the rats. His cousin Dominik Bombastus Houvenaghel, who leads a criminal ring, will also be important for the new episodes.

Meanwhile, the false Ciri, Teryn, is married to the Emperor of Nilfgaard. Yennefer forms a secret lodge with the other sorceresses who survived the Thanedd coup.

In addition, a producer of the series suggests that the exchange between Henry Cavill and Liam Hemsworth will probably also be addressed in the series.

The characters of Nimue and Stribog are also introduced in season 4. Young Nimue is obsessed with the stories of Geralt and Yennefer, which date back almost 100 years. Stribog, the storyteller, recites these to her, and as is often the case with events passed down orally, one or two details are changed by the narrator. Geralt’s changed appearance is probably explained by an unreliable narrator.

The Witcher Season 4: Cast

Liam Hamsworth, known from the “The Hunger Games” films, will portray Geralt from season 4 onwards. A quite controversial decision, as Henry Cavill is considered by many fans to be the ideal Geralt of Rivia.

Anya Chalotra and Freya Allan will probably remain with us as the sorceress Yennefer and Princess Ciri. Joey Batey will certainly return as the bard Dandelion. Other possible returning actors include Bart Edwards as Emhyr var Emreis, Mimi Ndiweni as Fringilla, Eamon Farren as Cahir, Anna Shaffer as Triss and Mahesh Jadu as Vilgefortz.

There are also rumors (via Redanian Intelligence) that South African actor Sharlto Copley (“Matryoshka”) will take on the role of villain Leo Bonhart. The US magazine TVLine has now confirmed this rumor.

Zoltan Chivay and Skellen will also appear in the new episodes. While Danny Woodburn (“Seinfeld”) has now been cast as Zoltan, Skellen will be played by James Purefoy (“Mr. Monk’s Last Case: A Monk Movie”). Zoltan is a popular character and companion of Geralt in both the video games and books. Skellen, on the other hand, is a spy and advisor to Emperor Emhyr.

It has long been known that “Matrix” and “John Wick” star Laurence Fishburne will take on the role of Regis. While Netflix describes him as a “sophisticated barber-surgeon with a mysterious past,” fans of the series have long known that Regis is a vampire.

Clive Russell and Serrana Su-Ling Bliss take on the roles of Stribog and Nimue. Russell is known for his role as Ser Brynden “Blackfish” Tully on Game of Thrones, among others, while Bliss starred in Enola Holmes 2, Matilda: The Musical and Sex Education.

Lindon Porco will also play a role in the new season. He will probably become part of Zoltan’s crew.

The Witcher Season 4: Production

The showrunner of the series remains Lauren Schmidt Hissrich, who is also an executive producer of the Netflix project. Other executive producers involved are Simon Emanuel, Alik Sakharov, Tomek Baginski, Jaroslaw Sawko and Piotr Sikora. Most of the filming takes place in Great Britain.
