According to the US magazine Deadline, the Sony Pictures film studio decided to postpone “Morbius” at such short notice because “Spider-Man: No Way Home” is still making the box office ring. The sequel has taken in nearly 1.4 billion US dollars so far, making it the financially most successful film in 2021. So it makes sense that Sony, which shares the rights to “Spider-Man: No Way Home” with Disney, doesn’t want it that two of his films are snatched away by the cinema audience.

Variety, on the other hand, claims to have deciphered another culprit for the postponement of “Morbius”: the corona pandemic. As the US magazine reports, Sony has decided to release it later because the number of infections caused by the Omikron variant is skyrocketing worldwide and this could negatively affect the success of the Marvel film.

Which of the two is right remains to be seen. The fact is, however, that the US theatrical release of “Morbius” will be postponed to April 2, 2022 – and thus for the fifth time. It is still unclear when the Marvel film will premiere in Germany. A theatrical release is likely at the end of March 2022.
