Silo will be broadcast from May 2023 on Apple TV+. This series of SF, adapted from the novels of Hugh Howey, is notably worn by Rebecca Ferguson.
Hugh Howey’s trilogy had been a literary sensation in science fiction. The synopsis is not really happy: an Earth that has become unbreathable, a few thousand survivors forced to live in a 144-storey underground silo. Only contact with the outside? Giant screens showing images of the devastated Earth. To the obvious claustrophobia of the habitat, we must add a dystopian society, ultra-controlled by a totalitarian regime.
First self-published, the saga has become a phenomenon in bookstores. The idea of an adaptation has been floating around for a long time – 20th Century Fox wanted to entrust a film to Ridley Scott. But, in 2021, it was finally the SVOD service Apple TV + which inherited the project, in the form of a series. This March 6, 2023, the author of the saga, Hugh Howey, and the streaming service, released the series’ first-ever trailer. Not without a surprise at the end: the broadcast date is announced May 5th.
Rebecca Ferguson as headliner
The least we can say is that this trailer is attractive – even impressive in its staging. The oppressive atmosphere is there, and it seems to be well punctuated by the mystery that surrounds the reality hidden by this dystopian regime.
The adaptation of Apple TV + has in any case a high-level cast with, as headliner, Rebecca Ferguson. The actress seems decidedly subscribed to adaptations of major SF works since we saw her recently in the Dunes of Villeneuve. In Siloshe plays Juliette, an engineer who begins to understand that something is wrong and who will investigate.
The series will consist of 10 episodes (two of which air on May 5). Also in the cast, Lonnie Rashid Lynn (Common), David Oyelowo, Rashida Jones, Tim Robbins, Harriet Walter, Chinaza Uche and Avi Nash.
It will be noted that the adaptation has been renamed in an astonishing way. In the original version, the literary saga is called Wool ; translated into French by Silo. The Apple TV+ adaptation is called… Siloin original version.
