“There was blood everywhere”: why the nurses believed that Guillaume Durand wanted to kill himself

Saturday January 8, 2022, Guillaume Durand spoke for the first time about his jaw cancer in an interview with Le Parisien. While covered in blood, the former France 2 star presenter revealed that nurses believed he wanted to kill himself.

An overwhelming ordeal … In the columns of Parisian, Guillaume Durand revealed to have undergone a very heavy operation for cancer of the jaw. As he came close to death, the 69-year-old journalist explained: “Deep inside me, a commando mission was unleashed, à la Rambo, rather than pouring out in a torrent of tears and melancholy. It’s very animal feeling, whereas I can be afraid of a mouse.“In all transparency, the former star of France 2 confided:”I thought about death a lot, but without real anxiety. Basically, I had a very broad life. I just wished it was longer for my kids. It is true that there were dark nights. I was not feeling well.

Worried, his oncologist sent him to see a sophrologist. “I remember yelling at myself: ‘Durand, you’re bothering us with your problems!’ And then there are the kilos of drugs. I was well morphed. I couldn’t even read anymore“, he explained before adding:”Some said to themselves that I would not get out of it morally. Once, I instinctively got up in the middle of the night without realizing that I had unplugged my infusions. It beeped, I had blood everywhere. The nurses, who were as remarkable as my wife, thought I wanted to kill myself.“Referring to his reaction to discovering himself in the mirror, Guillaume Durand said:”The main risk was the deformation of the face. It is not completely natural to eat with the end of your leg. JI did not need cosmetic surgery. On the other hand, I lost 12 kilos. I had the impression of slipping, of being carried away by the disease.

Guillaume Durand: “The most destabilizing are the side effects”

Not wishing to hide anything, the journalist revealed that chemo and radiotherapy had been more difficult to live with: “The first two days, you don’t feel anything. Apart from the huge ultra-oppressive mold. It is after that it triggers an avalanche of phenomenal fatigue, damage in the mouth. The most destabilizing are the side effects.“He later developed:”My voice got deeper. I have lost hair. My hands were shaking so much that they couldn’t aim at my mouth when I ate. This happened. Well almost. In October, I contracted the Covid, which put me down.
