A broken childhood. This is what the two twin sisters, Elisabeth and Catherine G, experienced, raped by their older brother. Despite a long silence of 10 years, the young women decided to file a complaint. And they won their case by the compensation commission for crime victims which, despite the delay, will compensate them.

The nightmare of the two sisters Elisabeth and Catherine G starts early, too early. The young girls were only six years old at the time of the events mentioned. Apparently happy and loved in a large family living in a small village located not far from the Lille metropolis, the reality is quite different. Their whole childhood will be branded with atrocious memories. One of their older brothers will rape them in turn for years, forcing them, under threat and violence, to keep silent.

What they will do until adulthood. In 1995, the two sisters spoke about it for the first time. Catherine’s state of health worsens. The young woman suffers from anorexia and her sister Elisabeth must then entrust the doctors with the reasons for her discomfort. Encouraged by their family doctor, they finally decide to talk to their parents about it. Unfortunately, they will not receive the hoped-for and life-saving support.

The CIVI, the remedy to circumvent the limitation period

After a family council where the two sisters have the courage to confess everything, they are then threatened by their mother. “The mother did a classic blackmail to her daughters by saying: if you reveal that, I will kill myself”, says the twins’ lawyer, Ms. Carine Delaby-Faure.

Elisabeth and Catherine G find themselves again without issue and will again hide in silence until 2020. The year in which she decides to hire their lawyer. In 2021, the latter obtained from the guilty brother a letter of confession which could only lend credence to the complaint filed in June of the same year. Only then, the limitation period has passed. The prosecution therefore closes the case without further action, specifying that the facts are however an offence.

A recognition that will allow the twins’ lawyer to file a file with the CIVI, Compensation Commission for Victims of Crimes. File which has just received a favorable opinion. Elisabeth and Catherine G will each receive 50,000 euros in compensation from the CIVI. A decision that will now set a precedent in cases that will turn out to be similar.
