They rang the bell storm – fire in apartment building: passers-by as saviors


It is thanks to attentive Grazers that the fire on a roof structure in an apartment building in Graz / Gries district did not result in injuries. The passers-by noticed the fire on Tuesday night and rang all residents out of their beds.

On the night of Tuesday, several emergency calls were received in the fire brigade control center of the state capital Graz and reported a fire development in the roof area of ​​a residential building in Triester Straße. It was these emergency callers who woke the residents by ringing the doorbell and knocking on the front door.

Residents fled
After the professional fire brigade arrived just a few minutes later, an open roof truss fire that had already spread over the entire length of the roof ridge was found. At this point, the residents of the house had already fled outside unharmed.

The cause of the fire is unknown
In order to get to the source of the fire, the roof boarding had to be opened piece by piece from the inside using a rescue saw. In this way the spread of the fire could be stopped quickly and shortly after midnight the fire was stopped. The cause of the fire is currently unknown and is the subject of ongoing police investigations.
