US military bombs targets in Syria

For the third time in three weeks, the US military is firing on pro-Iranian militias in Syria. Dozens of soldiers had previously been injured in attacks on US bases in the region.

The USA says it has again bombed positions of pro-Iranian groups in Syria. US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin said the attacks in eastern Syria targeted two facilities used by the Iranian Revolutionary Guards and groups allied with Tehran. It was a military training center and a shelter. The attacks were carried out in response to attacks against US soldiers in Syria and Iraq.

It is the third time in less than three weeks that the US military has targeted sites in Syria that Washington says are linked to Iran. Tehran supports various armed groups that the US blames for attacks on its forces in the Middle East. On Wednesday, the US Department of Defense reported air strikes on a weapons depot in Syria. On October 26, the United States attacked two bases in eastern Syria used by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard and “allied groups.”

Dozens of US soldiers injured

In recent weeks, dozens of US soldiers have been injured in a series of attacks on US military bases in Syria and Iraq. Around 900 US soldiers are stationed in Syria and a further 2,500 in Iraq. They are intended to help prevent the Islamic State (IS) jihadist militia from resurgent.

The attacks on the US army were carried out against the backdrop of the war between US ally Israel and the radical Islamic Hamas in the Gaza Strip. Hundreds of Hamas fighters entered Israel from the Gaza Strip on October 7 and committed atrocities against civilians, including many children. According to Israeli information, around 1,200 people were killed in Israel and around 240 people were taken hostage to the Gaza Strip.

Israel then declared war on Hamas, which the USA and the EU classified as a terrorist organization, and has been attacking Palestinian organization targets in the Gaza Strip ever since. According to Hamas information, which cannot be independently verified, 11,180 people were killed as of Sunday evening.
