This electric city car, rival of the Dacia Spring, is equipped with a removable battery


Unveiled last May and presented at the Paris Motor Show, the new Next e.GO Mobile e.wave X is now available to order, starting at 24,990 euros. It has a removable battery and competes in particular with the Dacia Spring.

In recent years, electric cars have become more and more democratized, with the arrival of new, more accessible models on the market. Among them, we can notably cite the Dacia Spring of course, but also the Citroën Ami. Not to mention the even more recently unveiled models, such as the Microlino or the all-new Mobilize Duo, which is currently taking its first steps at the Paris Motor Show.

A new alternative

Last May, it was the turn of the German firm Next e.GO Mobile to unveil a newcomer in this segment of electric city cars. baptized e.wave X, this then succeeds the e.Go Life formalized in 2019. For her first walkabout, this newcomer therefore chose the Paris Motor Show.

The opportunity for visitors and future customers to discover this clever alternative to the stars of the category, which has a length of 3.36 meters for a wheelbase of 2.20 meters. Thereby, four people can take place on boardin seats covered with upholstery partly made of recycled materials.

The electric city car has a huge 23-inch digital panel, consisting of a digital handset and a touch screen. This newcomer is also compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, whilea mobile application called e.GO Connect App is also available, allowing access to various car data. Note that the rear seats can be folded to create a flat floor and increase the size of the trunk, which was not specified by the manufacturer.

Several charging methods

Under his hood, the Next e.GO Mobile e.wave X has a 44 kW 100% electric motor, or the equivalent of approximately 59 horsepower. It is possible to reach 86 kW, or about 116 horses for a few seconds. It is then much more than the Dacia Spring, which then peaks at only 44 horsepower.

If the 0 to 100 km / h has not been announced on the brand’s website, the latter evokes a maximum speed of 135 km / h. This newcomer has a 30.4 kWh lithium-ion battery, which then allows it to travel up to 163 kilometers according to the European WLTP cycle. However, it is possible to reach 250 kilometers in purely urban use.

Recharging is done in several ways. It is indeed quite simply possible to plug the car into a domestic socket, a public terminal. The brand offers its own Wallbox delivering a power of up to 11 kWbut the car’s on-board charger still limits the car to 3.7kW for now

The city car’s batteries are also removable and can therefore easily be replaced in an e.GO battery swapping station. But unlike what Nio offers, the procedure takes about an hour and is not yet automated. This should change soon, however, as the site explains. Electricity.

From €24,990

Already available to order, the new Next e.GO Mobile e.wave X starts from 24,990 euros, ecological bonus not deducted. This seems a bit expensive to us, because it is the price of a Volkswagen e-UP which offers better performance on paper, and much more than the 19,800 euros of the Dacia Spring.

But beware, only those who have made a reservation can currently access the configurator, which offers no less than three versions called Native, Urban and Metropolitan. The entry-level version is notably equipped with 17-inch rims and must be content with FM and DAB radio, while you have to choose the upper finish to take advantage of Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

The configurator will be accessible to everyone from December 1st., while the brand has also announced the arrival of a cargo version. It will also be equipped with an exchangeable battery and can be reserved from November 2, for a price that has not been communicated.
