This evening on Netflix: you liked Nothing new in the West, this film is for you!

After winning four Oscars a few days ago, “In the West nothing new” is (re)discovered on Netflix. If the movie has you more, the platform has another war movie you might like.

If In the West nothing new and its 4 Oscars you liked on Netflix, discover another war film available on the platform and to catch up urgently. This is Christopher Nolan’s Dunkirk.

Christopher Nolan’s film tells the story of 400,000 soldiers surrounded in Dunkirk and having to be evacuated by the British Expedition Force before the onslaught of the German army. Within this major historical event, we follow individual paths.

On land, we are with a trio of soldiers (don Fionn Whitehead) trying to cross the Channel, on sea with the crew of a yachtsman (including Barry Keoghan) whose boat is requisitioned for the military operation and in the air , with three British pilots (including Tom Hardy) protecting their allies on the ground.

Tom Hardy in Dunkirk

Dunkirk is a whirlwind, moving, violent and perfectly documented film that allows us to discover this little-known passage of the Battle of France. Nominated for eight Oscars, Dunkirk will leave with those for Best Editing, Sound Editing and Sound Mixing.

23 years separate the events of Dunkirk from those of A l’Ouest, nothing new, but it is interesting because both take a terrible look at global confrontations, whether it is the First World War (as in the Netflix film) or at the time of the German offensive on Western Europe in 1940.

Dunkirk / In the West nothing new

Note that the Netflix version of Nothing New in the West is the second remake of Lewis Milestone’s film released in 1930. Another version was released for television in 1979 by Delbert Mann. All are inspired by the novel of the same name written by Erich Maria Remarque and published in 1929.
