Worst case at the wedding ceremony
To contradict or to remain silent forever? This is what happens when someone really protests at weddings

Usually, at weddings, the question of whether someone has something to object to the wedding is a matter of form. If someone does answer, it can quickly become an embarrassing situation.
In the case of weddings, the sentence is one of the fixed components of the ceremony: “If someone present has something to object to this connection, may he speak now or be silent forever.” As a rule, nothing happens then, afterwards there is a “yes” from both sides and they lived happily ever after.
But what happens if someone really gets up to express their objection to the upcoming marriage? Most of the time this only happens in films: sooner or later, either the groom or the bride will (re) meet with the protester. However, some people have experienced such incidents in real life and reported them on a Reddit thread.
Cousin’s wedding objection
Some of the users even raised their voices themselves. In most cases this did not change the decision of the bride and groom. “I was asked to leave and she married him anyway. He cheated on her and infected her with an STD.” The couple is now divorced and the man is serving a prison sentence, reports the user: “Nevertheless, everyone still hates me for being right ten years ago.”
Most of them, however, took on the role of observer in such incidents – which is much more amusing. For example, a user reports on a wedding at which the ex-boyfriend of the bride mingled inconspicuously with the guests and intervened on the crucial question. Some family members would then have pulled him out of the church by the hand and foot.
At another wedding, the groom’s cousin appealed – apparently for no real reason. “He made a long speech about not getting married, but didn’t really explain why not.” The couple was not deterred by this. Another cousin was more precise: the bride was “too good” for the groom, he argued, and thus ensured a maximum of uncomfortable mood. “Everyone laughed nervously and shifted back and forth in their seats,” recalls an eyewitness.
Wedding called off
One woman was even violent: she was apparently secretly in love with the bride and slapped the groom in the face. Then she tried to flee with the bride – but in vain. As most such interventions cause an embarrassing incident, in the end they do not change the couple’s decision, if the reports in the Reddit thread are to be believed.
But sometimes things can turn out differently, as one user reports: At a wedding, a guest protested and retired to an adjoining room with the couple and the best man. After excruciatingly long minutes, the best man came out and announced that the wedding was called off.
