“Horizon: An American Saga” is “by far the biggest fight” led by Kevin Costner. A four-film project into which he threw himself body and soul after leaving “Yellowstone”.
Kevin Costner revealed earlier this week the first full trailer for Horizon: An American Saga, his four-part western epic, of which he is the writer, director and lead actor. A pharaonic project, post-war, which led the actor to leave his other western, Yellowstone, where he plays the main role.
Not an ordinary western
Currently, Kevin Costner co-wrote, directed and starred in Horizon: An American Saga. The first film will be released in theaters in June in the United States, followed by the second part two months later. The other two films have not yet been filmed. This project was carried out for 30 years by Costner, who even took out a loan on his house to help finance the film.
When no one wanted to do the first one, I had the brilliant idea of doing four.
“So I don’t know what’s wrong with me. But I wanted to get away from what we usually see in westerns, where the city is already there. Nobody knows how the city was born. A guy is coming from the horizon, if you will. Not much is known about him other than that he has skills he’d like to put to good use and that this town ends up desperately needing those skills… Too often, it’s not only a convenience for the hero to shoot down an idiot.“
Asked by The Hollywood Reporter On what was more difficult, Horizon or the making of his Oscar-winning film Dances with Wolves, Kevin Costner is very clear: “This is by far the biggest fight. I shot Dances with Wolves in 106 days. I shot the film you are watching in 52 days. I learned a lot and was able to use all the tricks of the trade to bring this film to an audience. And there are four“.
At the expense of Yellowstone
Much of the conversation during promotion for Horizon’s release centered on the impact the film had on the actor’s involvement in Yellowstone. We know that Kevin Costner has decided to leave the successful series to concentrate on his films. The show’s crew complained that Costner made himself less available for filming, while the actor’s entourage blamed delays on the Yellowstone script.
At this time, it is not known whether Kevin Costner will return to the series to finish the story of patriarch John Dutton when Yellowstone returns for the second part of its fifth season. Paramount has announced that the remaining episodes will conclude the series and will then launch a sequel to Yellowstone, which has a working title of 2024.
We do not currently know how Horizon: An American Saga will be distributed in France, in theaters or in streaming.
