this legendary license back? A statement that hypes

Soon a new game for an absolutely legendary Ubisoft license? The creator of an excellent franchise that is still very young is on his hot side.

In the coming years, Ubisoft will focus heavily on Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry and even The Division, the multiplayer saga which has a bright future given the resources allocated. But at the same time, other licenses have been more neglected for several years. We are thinking in particular of a certain Beyond Good & Evil 2 which is slow to be released. However, some developers would be more than ready to resurrect the publisher’s franchises. Especially one, actually.

A talented creator wants to revive this cult Ubisoft license

Starting next year, Ubisoft will invite players to return to a world inspired by Persian mythology with Prince of Persia The Lost Crown. An episode where we will still have to manipulate time as well as space, and which looks promising. 14 years after Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands, the cult franchise returns, while another is still in a deep sleep: Rayman.

A curious absence given the success of Ubisoft’s last two games. Rayman Legends, and its predecessor Origins, were real 2D platform gems with absolutely insane visuals. And despite all the praise from the press and players, we are still waiting for a worthy successor. Will it ever happen? Many hope so and there is a developer who would not refuse such a project.

Davide Soliani, creative director of Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope & Kingdom Battle, said he would be crazy not to work on Ubisoft’s cult license if the publisher made such an offer.

If it were offered to me, I would be crazy not to accept. Rayman is the type of game that has no realistic elements. And because of this, everything you create comes from your imagination and that of the team. Therefore, absolutely everything, whether it is a chair, a table, an enemy or an environment, is a form of art. It’s creating from scratch. So for me, as a developer, this is the pinnacle of possibilities. You can express your crazy and create your own things, like we did in Sparks of Hope. I think I would be crazy not to take this opportunity if it were offered to me.

Rayman has already made his return… but not where we want him to

Davide Soliani is more than willing to take the Ubisoft saga in hand, and given his talent and that of his teams, we are very curious to see what that could lead to. Particularly from a gameplay point of view, because Mario + Rabbids is more strategy oriented than platform. If you’re really in a hurry to rewatch the franchise and don’t want to remake Origins and Legends, there is an alternative solution for Apple device owners.

In 2019, Ubisoft released Rayman Mini on Apple Arcade. “A platform runner game for the whole family that offers a fun and thrilling experience that lets you choose your speed of progress”. A format to which the character without arms or legs is very accustomed since there have already been three runners. Rayman Jungle Run in 2012, Fiesta Run in 2013 and Adventures in 2015. Rayman Mini is surely not the fans’ dream project, but for lack of anything better…
