This new affordable electric car will have to face the Renault 5, Citroën ë-C3 and Volkswagen ID.2

We hope that VinFast will complete its project: this VF3 is promising with its mini SUV look. The Vietnamese manufacturer’s objective is to market an affordable vehicle for less than $20,000, and obviously 100% electric. The bet is far from won.

VinFast, the leading Vietnamese automobile manufacturer, has embarked on an ambitious project: to market several models of 100% electric vehicles in key markets such as Europe and North America.

In France, the VF8, an SUV, and the VF9, a larger SUV, are eagerly awaited and even behind schedule. But VinFast doesn’t stop there, with the VF6 and VF7 also in the starting blocks.

During CES 2024, VinFast lifted the veil on another interesting electric model: the VF3 compact city car. Although already known, new details about this car have been revealed.

Designated as a mini eSUV, the VF3 aims to combine the aesthetics of an SUV with the practicality of a city car. It evokes the Suzuki Ignis (and even the Jimny SUV, let’s be crazy), known for its ultra-compact urban SUV format.

With relatively high ground clearance and modest dimensions (only 3.19 meters long, or L319 x W168 x H162 cm), it is positioned as a car for the city with four real seats. VinFast says that by folding the rear seats, you can have a cargo space of 550 liters.

201 kilometers of autonomy

Its battery would offer an estimated range of 201 kilometers on a full charge, but VinFast does not specify the evaluation method (European WLTP or American EPA) and has not yet spoken about the charging power. On the technology side, VinFast promises a 10-inch screen compatible with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

VinFast plans to open pre-orders for VF3 as early as 2024. However, no pricing or specific release date has been announced as of yet. A few months ago, VinFast mentioned a price of less than $20,000. The brand is playing the card of caution, and we will do the same for the moment.

Note that in France, VinFast will have to go below 20,000 euros, and even 15,000 euros with this vehicle which should not be eligible for the ecological bonus. Opposite, Peugeot, Citroën, Renault and even Volkswagen… will have vehicles priced at less than 20,000 euros eligible for government aid.
