Warner Bros. sent a DMCA takedown notice to GitHub via its anti-piracy partner, MarkScan which specifically targets content from the American company, including HBO And Cartoon Network. The site maintainers, or pirates, aware of the legal issues, reacted quickly to avoid a complete closure of their platform.
Faced with this request, they promptly deleted the offending content, while explaining that links to M3U playlists do not directly constitute copyright infringement. GitHub granted one business day to resolve the complaint, and the developers chose to comply by identifying and removing Warner Bros. channels. and Discovery. This rapid action allowed the site to stay on the linealthough some links were just as quickly restored subsequently after a re-evaluation by these same developers.
